History of the Institute

Beekeeping Research Institute was established as the Ordu Beekeeping Station Directorate with the decision of Council of Ministers dated December 22, 1994 and numbered 94/22149, and with the Ministerial Authorization of 30 May 1995 and the Beekeeping Research Institute Directorate, with the Decree Law 639 dated 03 June 2011, It has been converted to the Research Station Directorate.

An area of 87 decares was selected within the boundaries of Dedeli Quarter on the Ordu-Sivas highway, 12 km away from the Army Center as the campus area and the construction of the institution service buildings was started in 1998. Our organization, which has been continuing its services in the service buildings of the Ordu Provincial Agriculture Directorate until 2005, has started to serve in the Dedeli Settlement, where construction works have been completed since 10 January 2005.

Task Areas and Tasks

Regional Task Area: All fields of Ülken's beekeeping

Task Subjects: Beekeeping and bee products;

• To collect and evaluate data at the national level needed for beekeeping surveys,
• To carry out researches related to local bee genetic resources and to ensure their sustainable use,
• To study nectar resources and capacities related to local and product specific ballars,
• To develop laboratory infrastructure facilities in response to the beekeeping sector and to carry out these activities in coordination with other institutions,
• To carry out studies on breeding, breeding and production techniques and tools and equipments which will increase productivity in beekeeping,
• To increase the usage areas of bee products as nutrition and food supplement,
• To work on apitherapy,
• Bee diseases and harms to work on issues and develop solutions,
• To identify possible changes that climate change will bring about beekeeping and develop appropriate adaptation recommendations,
• To monitor the developments related to beekeeping, to make observations, to prepare reports and to present detailed reports to the decision-makers regarding possible preventive measures,
